Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Gwendolyn A. Foster serves as the Director of Staff to the Surgeon General Headquarters Air Force. In this role, Brig Gen Foster provides direct support to the Air Force Surgeon General as he advises the Secretary of the Air Force, the Air Force Chief of Staff, the Space Force Chief of Space Operations and the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs on matters pertaining to the medical aspects of the air expeditionary force and the health of Airmen and Guardians. She is also the Chief Nurse of the Air Force where she is responsible for the policies and programs for 19,000 active-duty Guard and Reserve nursing personnel ensuring trusted reliable care to the Military Health System’s 9.6 million beneficiaries world-wide. Brig Gen Foster received her BSN from the University of Maryland at Baltimore and her MSN in Nurse-Midwifery from the University of Cincinnati. She is also a DrPH candidate at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
