Elizabeth A. Monsees, Senior Director for Infection Prevention and Stewardship Integration at Children’s Mercy Hospital and Assistant Professor at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine. Dr. Monsees’ primary areas of impact are developing sustainable, nurse-led strategies that advance patient safety through the safe and responsible use of antibiotics and diagnostic tests. Her research on nurse stewardship integration has been disseminated widely across healthcare epidemiology and leadership sites and has led to multi-site collaborative projects. Dr. Monsees is responsible for providing strategic leadership and oversight to healthcare epidemiology programs to improve system reliability. She has had additional leadership roles as Antibiotic Stewardship Program Manager, Senior Patient Care Services Researcher, and Clinical Safety Officer. Over the course of her career, she has served on or led national committees, including the ANA and CDC Antimicrobial Stewardship Working Group, Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America Research Committee and Diagnostic Stewardship Task Force, the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) Education, Communications, Nominating and Awards, and Research Committees. She holds Editorial positions on Antimicrobial Stewardship and Hospital Epidemiology, International Journal of Infection Control, American Journal of Infection Control and the APIC Online Text. Melding her experiences in practice and research, Dr. Monsees has developed and conducted interprofessional infection prevention courses throughout the world. Dr. Monsees earned her BSN and PhD from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
