Daniel J. Smith is a recognized advocate for climate health, dedicated to mitigating the adverse health effects of climate change on disenfranchised populations. His clinical expertise underpins significant roles in policy shaping and advocacy, contributing to global climate health initiatives as an author for the American Nurses Association's position statement on climate change and a member of the National Institute of Nursing Research’s climate change working group. Dr. Smith has played a crucial role in elevating the importance of nursing in addressing climate change, particularly as the immediate past co-chair of the Global Nurses Climate Change Committee and a board member of the Alliance of Nurses for Healthy Environments. Currently, he serves as an Assistant Professor at the University of Buffalo, where he directs the Research for Occupational, Public, and Environmental Health (ROPEH) Lab and collaborates with La Isla Network, a leading global occupational health research organization. Previously, Dr. Smith was the Weingarten Endowed Assistant Professor at Villanova University M. Louise Fitzpatrick College of Nursing. Dr. Smith is a seasoned primary-care nurse practitioner with a robust educational background from Emory University, including a PhD in Nursing Science, MS, BSN, and a post-master’s certificate in adult-gerontology, also holds a BA in Biology and Spanish from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
