Courtney J. Pitts is a Clinical Professor and Family Nurse Practitioner Specialty Director at the Emory University Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing. Dr. Pitts is a distinguished figure in nursing education, recognized for her leadership and collaborative efforts in shaping organizational policies and educational resources within various professional nursing associations. Her contributions include developing position statements, public policy agendas, toolkits, and webinars. As project director of a clinical training initiative, Dr. Pitts focused on increasing the number of Family Nurse Practitioners serving rural and underserved communities. Her scholarly interests encompass HIV and primary care, racial and ethnic diversity in NP education, and health equity for marginalized groups. Currently, Dr. Pitts holds roles on the National League for Nursing’s public policy committee, the American Association of Nurse Practitioner’s Awards Committee, and serves as an Associate Editor for the Journal for Nurse Practitioners. In 2021, she was appointed to the National Advisory Council on Nurse Education and Practice. Previously, Dr. Pitts served on the Board of Directors for the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties. Dr. Pitts earned her DNP and MSN from Vanderbilt University School of Nursing and her MPH from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
