Carrie M. McDermott is the Corporate Director for Nursing Professional Practice at Emory Healthcare. Dr. McDermott serves as the leader for Emory Healthcare’s Nurse Residency Program, supporting 11 hospitals and 250 ambulatory sites and impacting over 500 new graduate nurses annually. In this role she has implemented initiatives to support transitions to practice, with competency-based orientation, a redesigned preceptor role, and interventions to thwart incivility and promote healthy work environments. Dr. McDermott is also a leader at Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing, Emory University as an Assistant Professor and Co-Director for the InEmory Prelicensure MN program, an academic-practice partnership promoting new strategies in nursing education. She has also established an apprenticeship program and advanced nurse competency-based education in social determinants of health and health literacy at Emory Healthcare and the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing. Dr. McDermott holds a PhD in Nursing from the University of Colorado, and MSN from the University of Missouri, Kansas City, and a BSN from Research College of Nursing at Rockhurst College.
