Beth M. King is an associate professor at Florida Atlantic University, Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing, coordinator of the PMHNP program, and Principal Investigator/Project Director (PI/PD) of the CARE Model. Dr. King has blended a teaching pedagogy grounded in caring science and innovative practice models of care, to bridge the gap in health equity and has positively impacted the health and well-being of vulnerable populations in South Florida. In response to Florida’s burgeoning mental health crisis, she co-developed the first online, caring-based, Post Graduate Certificate and Doctorate of Nurse Practice, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program in the state. Graduates of this program are part of a diverse workforce who provide direct behavioral health care to thousands of south Floridians. Concurrently, as PI/PD, she secured over $5 million in external funding which supported the creation of innovative practice models. The CARE Model, a non-conventional mobile health unit, has improved the health outcomes to rural, and medically underserved populations by providing direct access to competent, compassionate primary and behavioral health care. Dr. King received her Diploma in Nursing from Iowa Methodist School of Nursing, BSN from Grand View College, MS from University of Maryland, and PhD from Iowa State University.
