Beena S Peters is the System Chief Nursing Executive for Cook County Health. Dr. Peters leads nursing practice across the Cook County Health (CCH) system, encompassing Acute care hospitals, Correctional Health, Ambulatory Services, Public Health, and Medicaid Managed Care Plan. Under her leadership, CCH secured a $4.9 million grant for Nurse Practitioner Workforce Development and a $2.1 million grant for training Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners. A Fellow of ACHE, The Advisory Board, and a Johnson & Johnson Nurse Innovation Fellow, Dr. Peters serves on numerous community and educational boards, including the University of Illinois Chicago External Advisory Board and the Institute of Medicine Chicago (IOMC) Board of Governors. She is also the founding president of the Indian Nursing Association of Illinois. Her exceptional leadership has earned her numerous accolades, including the 2023 Joan L. Shaver Outstanding Illinois Nurse Leader Award, the Jonas Salk Health Leadership Award from March of Dimes, the Woman Icon Award, and the Outstanding Professional Award from KCCNA. Dr. Peters' career includes various leadership positions at the University of Illinois Hospital, including Founding Director of the NIDCAP Training Center, ACNO, and Administrator for the newly established Children's Hospital. Dr. Peters holds a DNP and an MS from the University of Illinois and a BSN from Christian Medical College, Vellore, India.
