Angela Ross, a LTC (ret) U.S. Army Nurse Corps, is an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center Houston, McWilliams School of Biomedical Informatics. With over 25 years of distinguished service in the Army Medical Department, Dr. Ross has demonstrated exemplary leadership and expertise in health informatics. As the Chief Medical Information Officer and Project Manager for the Defense Health Agency (DHA), she led the selection and evaluation of emerging clinical information technologies across more than 30 medical treatment facilities. After transitioning to UTHealth, Dr. Ross spearheaded the planning and development of the first applied doctorate in informatics, the Doctorate in Health Informatics (DHI). Her rigorous efforts culminated in the program receiving approval in 2018. Nine candidates have successfully graduated under her direction as program director, and 37 students have enrolled. Additionally, Dr. Ross is a Co-investigator for the Texas Center for Clinical and Translational Sciences (CTSA), Community Engagement Component (CE). In this role, she led a team to develop evaluation methods for four community programs involving ten co-investigators from UTHealth Houston, UTHealth Tyler, and the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Under her leadership, the CE component has consistently met its grant targets.
