Allison A. Lewinski holds a joint appointment as an Assistant Research Professor at the Duke University School of Nursing and a Research Health Scientist at the Durham Veterans Affairs Health Care System. Dr. Lewinski is a recognized leader in telehealth, qualitative research methodology, implementation science, and chronic illness intervention development with a strong focus on diabetes and health equity. Dr. Lewinski’s collaborative and interdisciplinary research focuses on how patient-, provider-, and system-level factors influence telehealth use and outcomes. Dr. Lewinski works within Veterans Health Administration (VHA) and Duke University School of Nursing to (a) develop and implement evidence-based programs that improve health outcomes and optimize health system resources, and (b) implement processes and technologies to improve telehealth-delivered care. Dr. Lewinski was the principal investigator of a 4-year mentored merit award to describe how diabetes distress impacts Veterans and design an intervention to improve engagement in self-management and subsequent health outcomes. Collectively, her work has been well funded, published in high-impact journals, presented at select conferences, and has guided health system decision-making. Dr. Lewinski received her BS in Zoology from Michigan State University, MPH from the University of Michigan, BSN from Maryville University of St. Louis, and PhD from Duke University.
