Dr. Aldrich is a board-certified Informatics Nurse Specialist and has served healthcare organizations for over 35 years in clinical, academic and executive leadership roles. She is currently the Chief Clinical Digital Officer at the Center for Medical Interoperability (C4MI), a non-profit organization led by health systems to simplify and advance data sharing among medical technologies and systems. Her work focuses on ensuring that C4MI’s technical solutions are designed and equipped to address the goals of caregivers and patients. She leads the C4MI Clinical Transformation Advisory Council comprised of subject matter experts who assess the efficacy of technical interoperability specifications and their impact on patient safety, health care processes and outcomes, care coordination, informed decision making, and caregiver burden.
She spent the first twenty-five years of her career as a nurse at the bedside in cardiac and neuro traumacritical care settings and later as a Director of Emergency Services and a Chief Nursing Officer. Driven by a passion and dedication to create a seamless patient-centered care environment supported by functional technology, she pursued further academic training in informatics and executive leadership. As the inaugural CNIO at HCA, Dr. Aldrich created a systems integration approach with strategic and tactical roadmaps for implementing informatics solutions at scale. She developed many transformative solutions, including a strategy for secure mobile communications, VitalsNow with automated clinical decision support for medical device interoperability, a smart room “presence awareness” capability, and re-optimization of evidence-based nursing documentation with usability and systems EHR standards approach design.
Dr. Aldrich remains engaged in research and education. She has published extensively on topics including Informatics for Nursing documentation standards, interoperability and The Blending Education Leadership and Technology (BELT) model for highly reliable technology innovation. She teaches Nursing Informatics in graduate and doctoral programs at Vanderbilt University. Recognized as a senior leader in healthcare informatics, Dr. Aldrich serves on numerous policy and industry advisory councils at the national level. She has served on ONC task forces focused on Interoperability Experience and Standards and is currently active with the HHS Cybersecurity task force and HIMSS National Nursing Informatics Executive Committee.
She received her Master of Science in Healthcare Systems Leadership and Nursing Informatics and Doctor of Nursing from the University of South Florida.
