Joyce Zurmehly is an Associate Professor, College of Nursing, The Ohio State University and she is a Fellow in the NLN Academy of Nursing Education. She recently held positions as Director, Master of Healthcare Innovation and Director, Doctor of Nursing Practice Program for Ohio State University.
Dr. Zurmehly’s leadership and policy contributions focus on Evidence-Informed Health Policy in education and practice. With evidence-based policy as the driver, she fosters innovative strategies for education, facilitates effective nurse transitions to practice, and promotes optimal patient outcomes. In state, regional, and national workforce initiatives, she has substantially contributed to policy development in new nurse job satisfaction and entry to practice by facilitating preceptor availability and development. As a leader, she made contributions resulting in the development of model rule and statute language fostering innovative and substantive educational changes.
Dr. Zurmehly advances healthcare practice by applying principles of evidence-based quality improvement with healthcare delivery science. Through collaborations and grant funding, she uses the evidence to inform health policy. Her co-authored textbook, faculty guide and student workbook provide strategies, as she educates and mentors leaders through her work in state, regional, and national workforce initiatives. Her disseminations include numerous peer-reviewed journals and publications, as well as state, national and international presentations.
Dr. Zurmehly completed a BS in Nursing from Ohio University, Athens, Ohio; a MSN from Bellarmine University, Louisville, KY; a Ph.D. from Walden University, Minneapolis, MN; and a DNP from Waynesburg University, Canonsburg, PA.
