Shaomei Shang is currently Professor & Dean of Peking University School of Nursing, the Chairman of Nursing Advisory Board under the Ministry of Education China, the Chairman of Nursing Subcommittee for the National Steering Committee for Medical Professional Degree Education, executive council member and deputy secretary-general of Chinese Nursing Association, Vice President of Beijing Nursing Association, the Chairman of Academic Committee in School of Nursing in Peking University, etc. As one of the pioneers and leaders in higher nursing education in China, she has led to establish essentials for different levels of nursing programs and provided equal educational opportunities in China.

The main research interests include nursing education, policymaking & standards in health services, quality evaluation of healthcare and nursing services, geriatric healthcare & community rehabilitation etc. In the past decades, she successfully acted as the principal investigator for various projects supported by National Natural Science Foundation, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health, Community Health Association of China, China Association of Social Welfare, Capital Foundation of Medical Development, Beijing Municipal Bureau of Health, Beijing Municipal Administration of Hospitals and others. The projects she led in nursing education have a substantial impact on Chinese nursing development. she has published over 140 papers and 40 books. She currently has several studies undergoing that will continue to generate new nursing knowledge for clinical implication and education.
