Ann O’Brien MSN, RN, FHIMSS is an accomplished thought leader and nationally-recognized Nursing Informatics executive. Currently, Ann is a Clinical Informatics Consultant at StarBridge Advisors. Her contributions have focused on system-level strategic optimization of EHR data and technology to improve patient safety and quality outcomes. Her work leverages interprofessional teams and advanced analytics to support the quadruple aim and decrease clinician burden. Ann’s clinical informatics leadership role at the National Program Office of Kaiser Permanente focused on inter-regional standardization of workflow processes and evidence-based practice and produced demonstratable financial and care delivery improvements. She has advanced the specialty of Nursing Informatics through national leadership in transforming nursing documentation. Ann was recognized as a Top Clinical Informaticist by Modern Healthcare Magazine in 2012 and was one of four recognized as the HIMSS Most Influential Women in Health IT in 2018. Ann is a champion of healthcare transformation but she is best known for her passionate leadership and her mentoring of emerging nurse leaders and informaticians. She is a Certified Professional in Health Information Management Systems (CPHIMS) and a Fellow in Health Information Management Systems (FHIMSS). Ann received her BSN from Ohio State University, her Master’s in Nursing at University of Texas at Austin and her Post-Master’s in Nursing Informatics at Duke University.
