Sharon E. Lock is Professor and Assistant Dean of Faculty Practice at the University of Kentucky College of Nursing and clinic director for the UK College of Nursing Phyllis D. Corbitt Community Health Center in Wilmore, KY. Dr. Lock is a Distinguished Scholar and Fellow in the National Academies of Practice and a Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.
As an expert advanced nursing practice educator, Dr. Lock served on a trailblazing team for the first Doctor of Nursing Practice program in the country at the University of Kentucky. She has mentored over 350 graduates of Masters, DNP and PhD programs, many of whom are national and international leaders in primary and rural health care. As co-director of the UK College of Nursing-Norton Healthcare Partnership, she provided leadership for an innovative collaboration to provide DNP education for almost 100 nurses in the Norton Healthcare system. Dr. Lock led an academic-community partnership to develop the UK College of Nursing Phyllis D. Corbitt Community Health Center in Wilmore, KY. Through a HRSA funded grant she has provided leadership over a complex partnership of academic and healthcare partners to prepare undergraduate nursing students in the role of the registered nurse in primary care with a focus on rural health.
Dr. Lock received her BSN and MSN from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, her PhD in Nursing Science from the University of South Carolina and a post-graduate certificate as a primary care nurse practitioner from the University of Virginia.
