Xianhong Li is currently Associate Dean and Professor, Xiangya School of Nursing at Central South University, in Hunan Province, People of Republic of China.
As Associate Dean for Research & Nursing Discipline Development, Dr. Li has contributed to building the research expertise and career development of nursing scholars and established important multi-disciplinary research collaborations. Nursing faculty are now conducting rigorous research sponsored by competitive national and international grant funding programs. She has developed the first nursing program in Genetic Counseling and the first Nursing Leadership course for master’s students in mainland China. This has enhanced the preparation of nurses and expanded the scope of nursing practice. Dr. Li’s multidisciplinary research projects in the field of HIV care and prevention in China funded by NIH, China National Office for Philosophy and Social Sciences, have improved the HIV continuum of care through development of interventions to reduce stigma and promote antiretroviral treatment especially among men who have sex with men (MSM). She also has enhanced awareness about HIV transmission risk among female spouses of MSM. The study results are influencing policy and healthcare delivery in China, and has twice received awards from the Hunan Provincial Ministry of Technology.
Dr. Li received her BSN, MSN and PhD from Xiangya School of Nursing, Central South University, with one year’s doctoral study in Yale School of Nursing. Later she received her post-doctoral fellowship in Law School of Central South University and the Fogarty fellowship in University of California in Los Angeles.
