Dr. Yeur-Hur Lai is a professor of School of Nursing at National Taiwan University (NTU), and a director of the Department of Nursing at NTU Cancer Center. Previously the President, she is now a board member of the Taiwan Oncology Nursing Society. She is currently President of “Taiwan Association of Tobacco Control and Smoking Cessation Education” and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Nursing Research.
Dr. Lai pioneered the role of the clinical nurse specialist at the NTU Hospital in 1988 and developed the first national oncology nursing training in Taiwan. Her research focuses on cancer symptom management, care needs, quality of life, and psycho-oncology. She has been the lead investigator for the ‘National Tobacco Control Educators Training’ since 2003. She provides leadership at the highest level on the National Cancer Policy Taskforce for Taiwan, as well as a member of the Board for Cancer Prevention & Treatment, in Ministry of Health. Through her expertise and sustained involvement in health care, Dr. Lai has transformed cancer care and tobacco control in Taiwan. She also actively involves in cancer care related nursing, medical and interdisciplinary associations internationally. Her accomplishments have been recognized by the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) 'International Award for Contributions to Cancer Care' in 2002 and through her induction into Sigma Theta Tau's 'Nurse Researcher Hall of Fame' in 2013.
Dr. Lai received her BSN from the National Taiwan University, MSN from the University of Pennsylvania, and PhD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
