University of Alabama at Birmingham

Dr. Sigrid Ladores is an Associate Professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing. She graduated with her BSN and MSN degrees from the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing, and her PhD in Nursing degree from the University of Central Florida. She is a pediatric nurse practitioner and certified nurse educator who has taught over 3,000 students across different nursing programs, from pre-licensure to doctoral, since 2003. She has received multiple awards for her teaching, research, mentorship, and service. She is in leadership roles for the Philippine Nurses Association of America where she is the Chair of the Research Committee, as well as the President-Elect of the Philippine Nurses Association of Alabama. Her significant body of research promotes fertility and reproductive health for individuals with cystic fibrosis (CF), an incurable genetic disease, and has contributed to transforming nursing care for an underserved and understudied population. Her research expands opportunities for men and women with CF, who historically did not live past adolescence, to create biological families using innovative, fertility preservation approaches. Her work that has been funded by the NIH and Foundations will lead to new clinical care models and health policies as well as educational interventions to enhance the lives of individuals with CF. These advancements can be translated to populations with other chronic illness.
