Renee Hoeksel is Professor Emeritus at the Washington State University College of Nursing on the Vancouver, Washington campus. With a stellar nursing career focused on the improvement of patient care, Dr. Hoeksel is respected as an educator, leader, mentor, administrator, scholar, and clinician. The totality of her work exemplifies successful, sustainable collaborations between and within education and practice across seven western states. Her leadership contributions have resulted in the development and funding of accessible, efficient, affordable, high quality educational programs to promote academic progression and fully transformed RN-to-BSN education across Washington state. In synergy with her 30 years of executive administrative and teaching responsibilities at WSU, Dr. Hoeksel’s scholarly endeavors focused on funding the development and expansion of programs for the academic progression of working registered nurses. Her numerous program grants and scholarly projects resulted in multiple peer-reviewed publications and presentations disseminated to regional, national, and international venues. Dr. Hoeksel has earned numerous teaching and leadership awards including honored by the Washington Nurses Association as the Nurse Educator of the year in 2015 and inducting her into their Hall of Fame in 2017. She is a Fellow of the National League for Nursing’s Academy of Nursing Education (ANEF).
Dr. Hoeksel received a diploma from the Emanuel Hospital School of Nursing in Portland, Oregon, her BSN from Southern Oregon University, and her MN, PhD, and Postdoctoral Fellowship in Nursing from the Oregon Health Sciences University.
