Joyce E. Dains is currently Professor and Chair, ad interim, the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas where she also serves as Executive Director for Advanced Practice. She has been named a Fellow by the National Academies of Practice and by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.
As an experienced clinician, educator and administrator Dr. Dains has developed unique and high impact educational and clinical programs that serve as models across the nation. Prior to MD Anderson, Dr. Dains held faculty and leadership positions at major universities and medical institutions where she was instrumental in the education of undergraduate and graduate nursing students, medical students, and medical residents.As a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner she has also held clinical positions and maintains a clinical practice in the MD Anderson Cancer Prevention Center. The author of internationally acclaimed and award winning textbooks, including Elsevier’s Guide to Physical Examination and Advanced Health and Clinical Diagnosis in Primary Care Dr. Dains has influenced the education and clinical practice of nurses and other health professionals globally.
Dr. Dains earned her diploma at New England Baptist Hospital School of Nursing, a BS in nursing from Boston College, a MSN from Case Western Reserve University, a doctorate in Public Health from the University of Texas – Houston, and a post-graduate certificate as a Family Nurse Practitioner from the Texas Woman’s University. She also earned a doctorate in Law at the University of Houston and practiced law for a brief period.
