System Chief Nurse Executive

Yale New Haven Health System

Beth Beckman is the inaugural Chief Nurse Executive for the Yale New Haven Healthcare System.

Dr. Beckman co-authored three legacy writings of nursing’s history that resulted in national and international dissemination of leadership lessons learned from nurses who changed the face of nursing and healthcare. These Sigma Theta Tau books entitled Pivotal Moments in Nursing – Leaders Who Changed the Path of a Profession Volumes I & II and Words of Wisdom chronicled crucial nursing history of 23 iconic nurse leaders including Drs. Ford, Styles, Clifford, Ferguson, Donaldson and McClure. Volume I was the third best seller in STTI history having been adopted by many schools of nursing for leadership courses. Since 2002, Dr. Beckman has been dedicated to Magnet leadership in a variety of roles – Magnet appraiser, Magnet Project Director, Chief Nursing Officer, national podium presenter, and author on Magnet related principles. Her national influence has led to expanded understanding and adoption of Magnet structure into hospitals and hospital systems across the U.S. and internationally. Mentoring others to lead with a Magnet heart has been her career passion. Lastly, Dr. Beckman has been dedicated to serving diverse and at-risk populations through Governing Board leadership (GRACE & Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth Health), CNO sponsorship, hospital initiatives (Serve West Dallas) and individual mentorship with substantial impact at the local, regional and state levels.

Dr. Beckman received her BSN from University of Arizona, her MS from Arizona State University and her DNS from Johns Hopkins University.
